Instructional Strategies:

a. Sound Sorting Activities
        -
Play a variety of sounds (animal noises, nature sounds, instruments) and have students sort them into categories. You could use categories like "loud" vs. "soft" or "sharp" vs. "dull."

b. Sound Scavenger Hunt

        - Take students outside or around the classroom, and ask them to listen carefully for different sounds. Have them categorize the sounds they hear (e.g., natural sounds like wind or animal noises vs. man-made sounds like a car horn or music).

c. Interactive Chart or Graphic Organizer

        - Create a large chart or graphic organizer with headings like "Animal Sounds," "Machine Sounds," and "Nature Sounds." Have students listen to various sounds and place them in the correct category.

d. Use of Sound Clips or Videos

        - Play sound clips or videos that feature different types of sounds. After each clip, ask students to discuss which category the sound belongs to, encouraging them to explain their reasoning.

e. Sound Sorting with Picture Cards

        - Provide students with picture cards that represent different sounds (animals, objects, places). Have them group the cards into categories based on the type of sound they make.

Quarter 1 Week 2

Objectives:

A. Content Standard: Demonstrates understanding of the alphabets in English in comparison to the alphabets of Filipino and Mother Tongue

B. Performance Standard: Distinguishes similarities and differences of the alphabets in English and Mother Tongue/Filipino

Materials Needed:

Instructional Strategies:

a. Alphabet Song with Movements

        - Sing the alphabet song while incorporating hand gestures or body movements for each letter. For example, when singing “A,” students can pretend to "hold" the letter in their hands. This approach is engaging and helps kinesthetic learners.

b. Letter Sorting Games

       - Provide students with a set of letter cards, both uppercase and lowercase. Have them sort the cards into two piles (one for uppercase, one for lowercase). This could also be done by matching uppercase letters to their lowercase counterparts.

c. Alphabet Bingo

       - Create Bingo cards with different letters in each square. Call out letters, and students will mark the corresponding letters on their cards. The first student to complete a row or column shouts “Bingo!”

d. Alphabet Scavenger Hunt

       - Give students a list of letters and have them find objects in the classroom (or outside) that start with those letters. This can be a fun, hands-on way to reinforce letter sounds and recognition.

Quarter 1 Week 3

Objectives:

A. Content Standard: Demonstrates understanding of the relationship of phonetic principles of Mother Tongue and English to decode unknown words in English

B. Performance Standard: Analyze pattern of sounds in words for meaning and accuracy

Materials Needed:

Instructional Strategies:

a. Phonics Word Walls

            - Create a word wall with common phonetic patterns (e.g., "at," "it," "og"). Students can refer to this wall when encountering unfamiliar words. You can include both Mother Tongue and English words that share similar phonetic patterns.

b. Sound-Spell Mapping (Phoneme-Grapheme Correspondence)

            - Teach students how sounds in words (phonemes) correspond to letters (graphemes). Focus on simple consonant-vowel-consonant (CVC) words to practice. Use both Mother Tongue and English examples to highlight shared phonetic structures.

c. Blending Sounds to Decode Words

            - Teach students to sound out words by blending individual phonemes. Start with simple CVC words and move to more complex ones. Use both Mother Tongue and English words that share similar sounds and spelling patterns.

Quarter 1 Week 4

Objectives:

A. Content Standard: Demonstrates understanding of the relationship of phonetic principles of Mother Tongue and English to decode unknown words in English

B. Performance Standard: Analyze pattern of sounds in words for meaning and accuracy

Instructional Strategies:

a. Rhyming Picture Cards

            - Create a set of picture cards with images of objects that rhyme (e.g., cat, hat, bat). Show a picture to the class and ask them to identify other words that rhyme with it.

b. Rhyming Word Songs

            - Incorporate songs or chants that emphasize rhyming words. You can adapt popular nursery rhymes (e.g., "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star") to focus on rhyming.

c. Rhyming Word Sort

            - Provide students with a list of words and have them sort the words into rhyming groups. You can include both familiar and unfamiliar words to stretch their thinking.
